BIOGRAPHY
Roy Taro
Born in 1994
From Tokyo, Japan
Roy Taro is portraying a world where Jade Sun shines.
His main media are painting and poetry.
What the artist expresses is the inner mythology within him,
as he crosses the boundary of the world with the fictional sun and local landscapes and cultures.
He graduated from Waseda University in Japan in 2016 with a major in law. When he was a senior, he visited Yap island in Micronesia. He lived as the local, saw the tropical wood where crabs walked on and fathoms of the blue ocean, the silver nights of the stars and the moon. Then, he realized that there is something like a valley between where he is and the world having the life breathing. He had felt being away from art. After graduation, he realized his path was art, started photography and writing in 2017, painting in 2018.
STATEMENT
Jade Sun is radiant,
somewhere in the sky
I create through both painting and poetry, as both serve as methods for exploring images. By occasionally crossing the boundary between the two, I seek to depict landscapes as they are the beginning of the world. The jade sun which appears in the conceptual poem, is a fictional sun that was born from the cosmo egg at the very moment the world came into being. In the process of creating my paintings, I visit and research landscapes by the sea, in the mountains, or on islands, gathering images of these sceneries. Every scene of landscape that each of us experiences is unique. I aim to paint an image that only I can capture. The landscapes gathered through drawing or photography could have a different hue. These are connected to the poetic, linguistic world with Jade Sun’s glow.
