TOMO MORI
PROFILE
(1972-present)
Tomo Mori was born in Shijonawate, Osaka. After graduating from Tokyo Metropolitan High School for Music and Art, she pursued studying art at the Atlanta College of Art in the United States. After college graduation, she started to work for CNN and built her career as a graphic designer, but she returned to pursue art again in 2011.
Tomo’s work starts with dark emotions by observing the world’s inequality from the newsroom and the discrimination and violence she experienced as a minority woman of this generation. However, the completed works are uplifting. In her process, she goes through healing, connecting, then intersecting with the past to find hope. Both collage and rope installation, composed of fabrics from all over the world, gives a sense of light and warmth.
