上智大学、ウッドベリー大学、UCLAで経済学を学ぶ。
ロサンゼルスのオーティス・パーソンズでフランクリン・レイガルのもとで絵画技術を学んだ。
現在はカリフォルニア州トーランスのアトリエで制作に専念。
ハリー太田は1970年からロサンゼルスとサンタフェを行き来している日本人アーティストである。キャンバスにアクリル絵の具を使い、アメリカ南西部やロサンゼルスのサウスベイ地域のイメージを、自然に対する人間の侵入に焦点を当てて描いている。デビッド・ホックニーやエドワード・ホッパーに影響を受けた彼のスタイルは、強い構図とデザインのセンスを持つ具象的なものである。太田は、同じ対象に対する複数の視点の可能性に興味を抱いている。彼の作品は、"現代アメリカ生活の編集されたヴィジョンを反映した、スペアで緻密に計算されたレンダリング "と評されている。
Born in 1949 in Yokohama,Japan,
Ohta studied economics at Sophia University in Tokyo,Woodbury University, and UCLA.
A lifelong painter,he learned painting techniques under Franklin Leigal at Otis Parsons in Los Angeles. Ohta has dedicated himself to making art at his studio in Torrance, CA.
Harry Ohta is a Japanese artist who has split time living in Los Angeles and Santa Fe since 1970. Ohta uses acrylics on canvas to create images of the American Southwest and South Bay area of Los Angeles focusing on man’s intrusion on nature. Influenced by David Hockney and Edward Hopper, his style is figurative with a strong sense of composition and design. Ohta is interested in the possibilities of multiple perspectives on the same object. His works have been described as “spare and finely calculated renderings that reflect an edited vision of modern American life.”
